SCULPTURE RESIDENCY JULY 2011
TREE OF REFECTION
Avonbourne school, Bournemouth, Dorset, UK The piece is a commission/residency in the above school. A response to Earth Charter week taking place in the school with various artworks and events. The brief was for a ‘Tree’ in recycled metal and to be inclusive of the whole school. " As my work usually starts in the recycling yards and skips looking for steel I am already in the arena. The idea of ‘Tree’ lending itself to inclusiveness is obvious in the use of the leaves. Each was made individually by a pupil or member of staff, each carried a simple message. The pupils helped me dress the leaves onto the branches. A period of time will pass and the leaves can be recycled to make way for a new season, a new school population. " AJH 2011 The main structure is steel and galvanised steel, the leaves are fixed with copper wire and the leaves are tin coated brass foil and pure aluminium. Five metals all recycled.
